Default Slow Spin - Clothes still wet
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAH6700AWW
Age: Less than 1 year

I got this front-load washer used (I knew about the problem when I got the unit) - works fine EXCEPT that the drum appears to spin no faster than 300 RPM or so. Supposed to spin at 1000 RPM or higher (on high speed). The door DOES lock properly, and the slow spin speed when selected certainly appears slower. I was told the control board was already replaced. Anyone have any suggestions about this problem?

Front loaders are complex. There are many possibilities for your problem. The motor control board is likely, but that's a lot of cash on a gamble. There is a troubleshooting sheet in the washer. It will in the control panel or taped to the side on the bottom. Follow the steps for your problem description. You will need a voltage meter. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for your reply, fixtec. I have little reason to doubt the claim that the board had been replaced, but let's suppose it has indeed been replaced and is good: could it be a bad winding in the motor, or a miswiring in the harness? -PJ

Your motor has two windings (start and run). If you had a bad start winding your motor would humm and not move at all. If you had a bad run winding Your motor would shut down on overload due to the high amp draw created by the start winding. A miswire wouldn't have worked ok for a year before showing symptoms. I think you're barking up the wrong tree.
The reason I'm able to help you out is because I just had fuel pump replaced in my service van and it only lasted a week. It's being replaced again now. The point being, the age of the board replaced don't matter it may be bad. I should also mention your Neptune has two control boards. A machine controller and (this is the one of interest) the motor controller. Do you know which one was replaced?
I would, if you haven't already, find the tech sheet I mentioned and run some of the tests. It should also give you a better idea of which components are on the motor curcuit.
Sorry, but there are very few easy answers concerning electrical problems on front-load washers. Keep me informed and good luck.
