My washer does somewhat the same thing.

The agitation cycle starts out normal for ~5 seconds and then there is a solenoid like click and the agitator cycle becomes much smaller and is accompanied with a squeaking noise as it cycles back and forth.

Would this be the motor or clutch??

thanks for any help,

Dave

General Electric WPSR3100W0WW."

Sorry I was trying to respond to an earlier post but mixed something up ... I don't have a model number but the one above looks close enough.

General Electric Heavy Duty Medallion Model if that helps.

thanks,

Dave

You may have a faulty switch.

What switch? Does it have something to do with locking the clutch in or am I way off base here. Where would it be located?

thanks for any help,

Dave

It is the speed switch that is on the control panel.

It would have to be check to know for sure if it is faulty.

Here is a link to a washer with the model WPSR3100W0WW.

Thanks Sheila,

Turns out it needs a new agitator coupling. I can see the shaft turning inside of the rubber sleeve. Any easy way to remove the steel part from the shaft?

I think I have an old style GE washer with the 20 spline shaft.

thanks again,

Dave

A puller is the easiest way to remove the coupling.
