Default Serious Vibration in Spin Cycle
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT9634ABE
Age: 5 - 10 years

I am experiencing serious thumping during the spin cycle with my Maytag washer LAT9634ABE, even moving the machine on the floor. On checking, clothes do not appear to be unbalanced in the drum. Experience thumping even with small wash load. The washing machine is on a piece of carpet on a tile floor.

When moving the drum back and forth by hand it does not quickly re-centre and it feels like there is friction resistance to the movement. Is this a normal effect of the damper mechanism?

I have removed the front panel and nothing appears broken. Should I try tightening the centering springs? Or does it seem I should replace the damper mechanism? Is there anywhere else I should look?

Here is the link to the PartSelect diagrams:

Thanks,

The drum should center itself quickly.

Check the damper pads for ware.

Make sure that the area is clean.

You may have to lubricate the area if it is dry.

Here is the part number for the lubricant. PS60283. You will need two.

Hi again Sheila,
I am usually pretty good at taking something apart for the first time. When I am disassembling my Maytag to lubricate or replace the damper pads are there any "not too evident" tricks in doing so? Are you aware of any links to repair manuals?

Thanks

There are no tricks.

The only place that you may find a manual is at a major library.
