Default Rust (?) from somewhere staining clothes
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 417.29042991
Age: 5 - 10 years

This front loader has a stainless steel drum but something is disintegrating and leaving stuff on clothes. I will have to take it apart , obviously, but does anyone care to guess what I will find?

we had the same problem...

ended up being little metal chips from work... i'm a tool and die maker...

so that could be the case for you as well...

we were getting little yellow/orange spots on clothes...

Thanks, I will hold off on the disassembly of the washer until I'm sure that I'm not introducing the rust.

This washer has been scrapped. The three arms that hold the drum in place were irreparably damaged (two of the arms had snapped). The stainless drum was torn at the three anchor points. What did the previous owners do to cause this? I'm afraid that's a mystery.

Default rust marks on clothes

I have a similar problem but it is coming from my dryer. The marks I had were long and thin and looked about the same every time it happened. A repair guy told me this week that it is usually the seals around the drum deteriorating. You have to remove the drum and replace the seals (they have to be glued). You may want to check out your dryer before assuming it is the washer.
