Default Replace belt and idler pulley
Brand: Amana
Model Number: LW8303W2
Age: More than 10 years

I am in the process of replacing my belt. I removed belt from large pulley and removed motor/pump assembly. The pump pulley moved freely but the idler pulley did not move and developed a flat spot. I ordered a belt and idler pulley.

Questions: How do I remove the belt from the motor/pump assembly. I removed the 3 Star bolts from the pump...but it did not release from the motor. I also checked the large pulley on bottom tub....and it moved...but not too easy? Is this suppose to move freely in both directions??

With the three bolts removed from the pump it should pull off.

The big pulley is the transmission pulley so it will not move that freely.

Default Belt replace

Thanks Shelia for your response...

Ok...the large pulley seems ok based on your reply.

The pump will not come off the motor.... Am I suppose to remove the pulley? It seems to come up about a 16th of an inch...but will not come off??

Can you help or tell me what I'm doing wrong??

Tim

Just a note to tell those of you that had the same problem...

After removing the three screws from the pump and the pump does not budge...I took some WD 40....Don't really know if it helped...but gave me an option to try... I placed a large screwdriver between the pulley and pump...I gently pried the pump in all directions…a little at a time, being careful not to pry too hard and damage the pump. Finally, the shaft, which had accumulated rust, broke loose and ALAS… the pump came off. I do hope this will help those with this problem in the future.
