Default Repaired washer shakes & smells
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.26902691
Age: 5 - 10 years

I just replaced the motor coupling on this washer, and now it shakes more on the spin cycle as well as gives off a slight burning smell. It does work, but I get the idea it will shake itself apart. I've balanced it so the top is level in both directions.

The spin cycle and agitation work, which they didn't before I replaced the coupling. Any way to get rid of these other issues?

Default smell problem

I replaced the drive coupling and had the same burning smell and shaking! To solve the burning smell the drive coupling had to reseated. It wasn't in tight enough. I followed the instruction at this web site Whirpool Drive-Coupling Replacement and the smell went away, but the machine still shakes!!!!! Good luck

I think the seating of the coupling was in fact the issue, and it seems to have seated itself after a few loads. Haven't noticed the smell recently and the shaking is not as much as it was. Thanks for the comments!

Folks-
I have just replaced the same part and am getting a burning smell as well. If it goes one more load I guess I'll pull it apart again. Your problems were that they just were not seated enough then? I banged them til they were flush on the front side, maybe they need to go as far back as possible?

If you tip the washer back to replace the coupling, you must be careful not to be too rough with the washer, or you'll let the floating balence triangular plate, get out of alignment while tiped back, if you do, it'll shake like an earthquake. If so you have to look up under the tub bottom and lift the tub one way or the other to line up the ballence systme!!
