Smile Re-attach Suspension Rod
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: Unknown
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have had this washer repaired twice within the last 6 months for the same problem, and I've paid thru the nose both times to get it fixed.

Today would have been the third time, but the repairman was a no-show/no-call. I have been told by the two previous repairmen that there was a piece that held the drum to the frame that had come loose.

I have taken it upon myself to fix this problem - I've been madly googling all night. First, it took me forever to remove the front panel...I finally did and hooted with joy. I am WOMAN, hear me ROAR. LOL.

Anyway, to make a long story short, one of the rear suspension rods is detached and I need to re-attach it. Easy peasy, right? Wrong. The rod isn't long enough to meet the piece where it joins the drum, no matter which way I twist and turn the drum, or lean it to one side, the bottom of the rod is higher than the piece on the drum so they won't clip together.

I'm thinking I am missing something. Do I need to detach all of the rods then reattach in a certain order?

Unfortunately, I can't find any place on the machine where there's a model#. It's a GE Profile top loader machine that I bought in autumn, 2004.

Thanks!!!

The model number is in the center of the back of the control panel.

You will have to remove the top of the washer.

With the front panel off remove the two 1/4 inch screws that hold the top down.

Pull the cover assembly toward you and up about 2". Disconnect the bleach funnel clamp from the bleach hose using pliers.

Remove the lid switch wires.

Remove the 4 dampening screws from the front dampener straps.

Remove the front rod and spring assemblies. One at a time. Lift the tub/platform up with one hand to take the weight of the suspension bellows.

The tub will now lean forward.

You can now access the rear spring through the top of the cabinet and hood the rear one back up.

Now reverse the procedure to reassemble.
