Default Oil in basket
Brand: Amana
Model Number: LWM833
Age: More than 10 years

Please help, my washer is working fine except for an oily substance that seems to be comming from under the agitator. My cloths are getting stained I know this washer is old but I can't see getting a new one if this can be repaired.

It can be 1 of 2 things. You use excessive amounts of fabric softener in your wash, and have so much build-up in the dryer, that it is breaking loose, and when it clumps up on your clothes, and you dry them, it looks like oil. Or, you have a oil seal leak, and the oil is coming up the shaft of the transmission. Take the agitator off, and clean the center shaft. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

We have an Amana washer, it is over 10 yrs old . My wife is beginning to notice black grease marks on the close. I have a Model # LW3502W but do not have a parts manual. Would like to repair it myself. Do not know the cause or how to take it apart to repair the trouble.

There's a seal that is a common failure causing the Amana's to do exactly what you're describing. Since its over 10 years old its not worth your trouble or cost to repair this problem, I'd just buy a new one. 10 year life expectancy of any home appliance is normal.

Here's your parts breakdown. Its neither an easy or fun task for you to attempt to do this repair on a washer that has lived its life...
