Default No agitate or spin
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: kawe742wal3
Age: 5 - 10 years

It does drain. It just hums when it should be agitating or spinning. Tilted washer back and didn't notice any parts laying below it, but I wasn't really looking for shrapnel, just a broken belt (which direct drives don't have). Reading other threads, it sounds like it may be a motor coupling. Any other ideas before I go tearing it apart tonight? I know, unplug it before I get in there with a screwdriver . Thanks in advance.
Jim

Here is a link to your washer model kawe742wal3.

Here is a is some instruction on how to remove the cabinet.

Remove the decorative end caps to expose the screws.

Take the two screws in the console out and flip the console up on it hinges.

Remove the two brassy looking clips in each corner.

Disconnect the lid switch wiring harness.

Open the washer lid and tilt the cabinet toward you and lift at the same time.

Place the cabinet out of your way.

Release the two clamps holding the pump on. You do not have to take the hoses off of the pump just swing it the side.

Remove the wiring harness on the motor.

Remove the two motor mounts.

Lower the motor and check the coupler.

Thanks a lot, I'll do it tonight. Do I need to remove the cabinet or can I just tilt it backwards, support it and access all of the components from the bottom? Looks like there's room enough when I was poking around there yesterday.
Thank you for your time,
Jim

Thanks Sheila. Yup, that's what it was. Found the broken parts under the washer.
Thanks for your help.
