Default Neptune thumping
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAH3000awa
Age: 5 - 10 years

Our Neptune washing maching is thumping during the wash/spin cycle. This started with towels in the load but now is happening more often. Parts look very expensive and its looks tough to work on.

If this is happening in both the wash and spin cycles and the washer is level then it could be one of the struts in the rear of the washer has become weak.

Here's the strut assembly for your model and below is a photo.

Thanks, I just re-ran a cycle and the thumping is only during the spin cycle, would it still be the part you suggested?

Yes this still could be your problem.

Is the thumping a violent thumping or just a bump bump bump?

Thanks very much for the reply. Its more of a bump, bump, bump than a violent thumping

Another thing it could be is one of the leveling legs may be loose.
