Unhappy Neptune Makes Clicking/Popping Noise
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAH3000AWW
Age: More than 10 years

We have the original Neptune, purchased in 1997. For many years, it has had a clicking/popping noise when the drums turns. It is more noticeable when it turns slowly or if we rotate it by hand. My question is: Is this noise likely the rear bearing? Is there a bearing kit for my model or do I have to buy a new drum? What is the cost of the drum/bearing kit?

Currently, with each load, the bolt that secures the large black pulley loosens and the belt slides over toward the drum and the pulley and belt have made contact with the drum. I plan to buy a torque wrench to check the bolt's tightness. Also, should the belt's tension be checked or adjusted? We have had a new motor/control board installed and I have always wondered if belt was properly adjusted.
The clicking started before that and no repairman has offered any solution except to tighten the bolt (without a torque wrench).

Sandy

If the bearing was going bad you would hear it more in the spin cycle.

You would see shaving around the pulley area in the back.

The bearing only come with the tub.

The clicking noise could be something that has gone through one of the hole in the tub and is stuck between the inner and outer tub.

The most common thing found is a bra wire.

The torque on the pulley is 30 inch pounds.

The belt should have no more then a 1 inch deflection.

Here is a link to your washer model MAH3000AWW.

i tore mine apart pounded the bearings out took them to work ( napa auto parts )
micked them and ordered 2 new sealed bearings got a new seal kit from maytag
you can put the front bearing in then slide the drum back in and then drive the rear bearing in go me going for about $65.00 you do not need to buy the whole drum kit dont listen to what maytag says just go get 2 new bearings
