Question Need help troubleshooting Membrane panel
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: 7500HWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a maytag neptune washer. A while back the membrane buttons quit working (everything else worked fine including the LCD panel). I replaced the top membrane panel assembly and the machine worked for about 15 loads. Went last week to do laundry again and the buttons are again not working. I am trying to figure out where to start troubleshooting the problem.

I have the original membrane assembly and am contemplating using that to do my troubleshooting and am open to breaking it open to figure out what the problem could be on the new part.

Even if there is a way to rig a switch on the board just for the start button would be great.

Thanks for any help!

You can try and pull the membrane ribbon cable out and clean it with a pencil eraser and put it back in. Lots of times a membrane will just warp and short out and fixing them is very hard.

So, an elementary question then: What could cause a new panel to warp? Being too hot in the laundry room? I hate to have to buy a new washer, but don't want to keep replacing the panel if I can find out what is causing the problem. I'll try cleaning the strip and see if that helps. Could be that the humidity in there is causing an issue.

Is there anything special about using a pencil eraser to clean the strip?

Thanks for the reply!

You can also try non-residue spray used for electronic circuits.
Last one I fixed I just unplugget the ribbon, then plugged it back in, no cleaning at all.
