Im working on my girlfriends washer that she recently recieved from a friend. Now i will be the first to tell you that I know little to nothing about repairing a washer but Im quite a handy man and usually can fix most anything. Im dealing with a old RCA washing machine that through my research has to be 20 or so years old possibly, I believe its belt driven, has a belt around a pulley for the motor, pump and the agitator. I spoke with the friend that gave it to her and she doesnt know when it was exactly purchased but does know it recently had a new motor put into it within the past year. My problem is this: The washer works fine until you get to spin, it jerks like it wants to spin but wont. Ive gotten it to spin by giving it a gentle spin and it spun for a good bit.. I stopped it and tried again and it spun on its on. but then it stops spinning on its on. I replaced the switch and took the front panel off and the belt and pulleys are turning it seems. Also the water does drain out, so the motor is working fine and the belt is in good shape. Im sorry im not able to provide a model number, but any help would be greatly appeciated.

With the front panel off, turn the tranny pully one way, then the other. In the spin direction, is it harder to turn than in the agitate direction. If so, you have something caught in the tub, a bad tranny,or bad spin bushings. Look above the tranny. Do you see dirty water marks,if so, this confirms bad spin bushings. Please post results.
