Default Need help identifying part
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAV6250AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Likely not the smartest decision I have ever made, I have decided to attempt to repair my Maytag Atlantis washer (model number MAV6250AWW) myself but I need help identifying the part.

The washer began making this very loud, awful grinding sound during the spin cycle. I removed the clothes, checked for anything stuck down in the tub and started it back up again (minus the clothes) and the sound was still there. I called a couple repairmen and after listening to the sound over the phone they both said it sounded like the bearings and for the cost of repair I could get a new washing machine. I did some research on the internet and determined that I needed something called a thrust bearing kit. I tipped back the washing machine and looked on the bottom. In the center there is this large plastic circular thing (pulley?) and then two small metal circular things, one on the right side toward the front and one on the left side toward the back with a belt around all three. I manually rotated the belt and noticed this rubbing/grinding sound coming from the small metal thing on the right side toward the front. It looks like the thrust bearing kit is used to replace the large center circular thing. My question is, what is the smaller metal one called and can that be replaced (assuming that's causing the problem)?

Thank you for your response, denman. I appreciate the helpful links. Looks like I need to replace the drain pump.
