Default Motor will not run
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 417.29042991
Age: 5 - 10 years

This model built by Frigidaire. Motor would not run. Went thru all the basic diagnostics, then used the Tech Sheet (taped to inside of machine) and went thru the Motor Movement 6 step procedure. Almost mis-diagnosed as a timer issue because in step 4 it tells you to measure voltage drop between pin 6 of the nine pin plug and pin 4 of the four pin plug and that is wrong (at least on this unit) because pin 6 of the nine pin plug is vacant, so if you didnt notice that, you will always get a meter reading of 0 and think it is the timer connection. Pin slots #3 and #6 are both actually vacant, so you must count the actual connectors that are present to get to the correct pin of the 9 pin plug to get correct reading. After doing that i got the 120vac reading for steps 4 and 5 and then 6 did not reflect about 6 ohms so went on to check motor windings and found the motor to be defective.
I wanted to alert everyone to this issue with the 9 pin plug since it appears to be causing quite a few timer mis-diagnosing. If you look up the part info on the timer for this machine, it says "rarely defective- often mis-diagnosed". Now we know why.
