Default Motor overheating
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT8234AAE
Age: Please select

A couple of months back, the washer wouldn't run. Noticed eventually that the springs on the motor had stretched. Figured out through trial & error that not all springs are the same...Got proper springs & belts from appliance parts retailer. Belts slip & squeal when first spinning then "catches" & spins drum w/no more squealing. Motor now is overheating & shutting down after 2-3 loads. What is the proper spring tension supposed to be? What's causing the overheating?

The over heating in the motor is likely caused by an internal problem in the motor.

I am not sure of the spring tension of those springs but if you have used the proper replacement springs they should be fine.

Is the carriage that the motor sits on moving freely?

Remove the belts and let the motor run and see if it over heats.

Is the tub bearing good?
