Default Mis-assembly: Clicket Clickety during spin DOH!
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.92573200
Age: More than 10 years

This is a top-loader, direct drive model 1995 vintage.
It worked fine until the motor coupling broke and I took everything apart and also found the clutch band was almost down to the rivets. No debris in the pump.

Put in an old jury-rigged motor coupling temporarily that I've used before.
I put a washer under each spring cup in the clutch spring as a temporary fix until the backordered clutch band comes in.

Washes, agitates, spins fine except it goes clickety-clickety-clickety on the spin cycle with increasing frequency as the drum gets up to speed. Hard to tell where the sound is coming from, but it sounds low near the transmission.

I suspect I put something together wrong in the clutch or the drum brake, or maybe shimming the spring was a bad idea.

Put the new motor coupling in today. (The latest design with the metal inserts is a big improvement!!

Still goes clickety click.

The drum brake only goes together one way, right?
How does that funky-looking white plastic drive tang work between the drum brake and the clutch?

Could the clutch band be in upside down? Do the tabs overhanging the band go towards the cup side or the outside?

There is a triangular plate that rides on top of the drum wear pads. Is this supposed to float around freely or is it attached to anything?

The spring sleeve under the agitator. What does it do and how should it be oriented?

Thanks for your help!

Can anyone recommend an appliance repair forum where I can get questions answered? Maybe my question is too complicated.

Problem solved. One of the brake shoes was cocked at a slight angle and it made the spring hit the brake drum mounting bolts. Moved and twisted the brake shoe back into position and the noise is gone. I recommend leaving this assembly alone unless you suspect it is broken. It is somewhat difficult to work on because of the heavy spring.
