Default Metalic Sound
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PAVT444AWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Washer makes very loud metalic clicking noise when on spin cycle and spins slowly. When you lift the lid it stops hard. Can not figure out the source of the noise. Checked bearing, fine. If it is the transmission is it worth repairing?

Were is the sound coming from?

Is the sound come from inside the tub or in the middle of the washer or under neath.

Here is a link to your washer model PAVT444AWW.

If it is coming from inside the washer check for bra wires or nails.

If it is coming from under the washer tip the washer back and take the dust cap off from the pulley and inspect the cam.

The sound was coming from underneath the tub. I replaced the thrust bearing and pulley. Now it only makes the sound briefly on the spin cycle. Could the 6 springs on the tub be stretched, because it is really easy to move the tub/drum from side to side? The tub wobbles around.

The tub is suppose to move in the spin cycle, if it didn't the washer would walk all over the floor.

It moves all the way from one side to the other, not just the normal movement. When it first starts the spin cycle it moves to the back right corner of the washer. This is when the noise happens, briefly.

Before you replace the springs check in the area of the snubber.

This area should be clean and dry.
