Default

Check your lid switch.

Take the two screws out of the front panel and remove the panel and check your belts.

Here is a link to your washer model lat8624aae.

Default Problem with Maytag washing machine

First of all, let me state that I'm just your average do-it-yourselfer. I recently made some repairs on my 11 year old Maytag Washing Mashine (model# LAT8604AAM) because it would not successfully complete the wash cycle, it would stop at the rinse cyle and end up not draining the tub. However, once it stopped you could spin the cycle select knob and start it on the rinse cycle and it would continue without any problems. My problem turned out to be a faulty timer mechanism (activated by the Cycle Select knob) and was EASY to replace.

The first thing I would ask is if the motor runs during the any of the wash cycle? If so, see if the belts on the bottom of the washer are hooked up. After that?

Regards,
handrepair
