I'm having the exact same problem with my Whirlpool, burning smell and all. I've narrowed it down to either a bad motor (reverse winding burnt out) or a bad timer (bad contacts trying to energize the forward and reverse at the same time.
One thing I did to determine it was not a transmission, brake, clutch, etc problem was to disconnect the motor mechanically and see if the shaft turned in the various cycle settings. I have motion in the spin setting, but not the agitate setting. |
