Default Maytag Washing machine: spin cycle doesn't spin
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAV5057AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello,

My Maytag top loading washing machine does not spin in the spin cycle. I hear the motor running and the pump appears to be draining, but does not spin. The agitation cycle works fine... At first it would just stop abruptly in the spin cycle with a clunk. If I restarted the cycle nothing would happen until I spun the timer around a few times and re-started it from the beginning or where ever it left off.

I have now replaced the transmission and the lid switch within the last two weeks (and replaced the belt a few months a go) without change. It still will not spin and will now trip the braker when I start the washer in the delicate spin cycle mode.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks,
Lars

Is the motor reversing when it goes in tho the spin cycle?

Did you replace the cam on the bottom of the pulley when you replace the transmission?

Here is a link to your washer model MAV5057AWW.

Hi Sheila,

Thanks for replying. I didn't replace the cam, but I inspected it and neither it nor the pulley were damaged in anyway. As far as the counter clockwise direct, I assumed it was as the pump drains. When I spin it manually it moves in both directions, but only the agitation cycle works.

The fact that it trips the power braker in delicate mode when in spin cycle, even when I've removed the belt says to me there is a electrical problem with the motor (blown capacitor ).

Thanks,
Lars

The capacitor is for the starting of the motor so if the capacitor was bad it would not work in the agitation cycle either.

It is likely the motor.
