Default Maytag washer leaking oil from bottom
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT2301AAE
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have noticed that the washer is slipping and sliding on the floor. Lifting the washer up I noticed that oil was being slung from the center of the drive pulley. Pulling off the plastic cap there was oil inside and the center of the pulley was wet with oil. Also oil was all along the perimeter of the bottom and an oily film was on the floor. Talking to the repairman he said that the transmission needs to be replaced, but it would be cheaper to simply buy a new washer. Is it possible to replace the lower seal or does the washer need to be replaced? If it can be replace, how difficult is it? Could it be something else?

Thanks for the help.
Joe

Looking into the repair manual it cites a "lip seal tool" to remove the seal. Where can these be obtained? On the parts website it is shown as "no longer available".

Sorry but do not know where to obtain this tool
Perhaps a nut could be threaded on and then use a wrench to remove the seal

Another possibility is to private mail PS Staff - Sheila asking for help
She seems to really know her washing machines. If she does not know where to get the tool, she probably knows a jiggery pokery that will work
