Default Maytag Neptune repair quote
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: mah4000awq
Age: More than 10 years

11 year old, original model Maytag Neptune. Symptoms: skips cycle sometimes, we'll find the clothes not complete spun dry/still saturated, or still have water in the tub. Also sometimes it will not dispense the fabric softener and it's not that it's plugged, we cleaned it out and when the washer is done the fabric softener is still there and still full strength.

Called repairman, he says it's the rear bearing, $650 incl labor. We don't notice the washer is much louder than it's ever been. I know it's getting up there in age..but does this sound like a bearing issue?

From your problems its not a rear bearing issue, it sounds like a clogged pump, for the drain issue, and for the fabric softner it could be not enough cold water, or all gumed up inside. But if it is noisy in the spin cycle it would be the bearing. I am surprised you have had a nepune that long. You might want to call the Smithsonian. LOL. If its loud in spin. Replace the product, and check out Fisher & Paykel. YOu can see them at Lowes. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com

Thanks for the quick reply! Is 11 years a long time in general or for this model? You're making me nervous!

I am not kdding, I hope you don't have this grand idea to get another one. They make me a great amount of money. Between electronic control boards, rear bearings, and water pumps, and torn front seals, you will be lucky to get 5 years, on the next one. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
