Default Maytag Needs Help Advancing
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: old top loader
Age: More than 10 years

This machine was working fine, until yesterday, when it wouldn't advance. I had to turn the switch by hand for each cycle. Is it a coincidence that I have the dryer heat inside? Maybe too much detergent build-up?

The little motor that advances the timer, is burned out, you'll need a new timer

Is this a difficult undertaking? Is it accessible from the front? If so, how to get the old handle off? Is there a video on a website that would be helpful? Thanks!

There is no handle that I know of, do you mean timer knob? If so pry the center cap off, in side (with a small screw driver) pry the little clip that holds the knob, on the timer, then pull off knob. take out the screws that hold the control panel on. make shure you unplug the power cord from the wall!! Remove old timer and replace the wires the same way on the new timer.
