Default Maytag agitates OK then doesn't drain
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT9824GGE
Age: 5 - 10 years

I am located in Beijing China. We bought the above Maytag some years ago but sat in a warehouse until about 3 years ago. Ran OK for a while but had to replace motor and starter switch. Some wires were chewed on by rats and believe the guy who repaired hooked it up wrong burning out the motor. Installed new motor and starter switch.

Ran OK after that for about a year. Now has a problem again. It fills up OK and agitates, then stops. Will not drain. Pump works during agitation. Spin cycle light is on but seems out of sync with timer.

Any ideas?

Frank

Thumbs up maytag drain problem (China)

Pull drain hose off of pump (drain) sounds like you might have something lodged within the housing?

I took off the hose that runs from the tank to the pump and drained the tank. No problem. The pump spins when the machine starts the cycle but then does not drain or spin.

the impeller could be slipping it most have the force to push the water up and out. If you can try inserting a screw driver into impeller and turn motor by hand .If you can turn motor with driver in place the set screw is loose.

I watched the machine go through the cycle again. It works normally in the wash cycle and I can see the pump spinning. When it goes to the spin cycle, the motor makes a humming noise but nothing happens. It starts to agitate normally during the rinse cycle. The motor then makes the humming noise again.

I manually turned the pump and it seems OK. Does the motor have to reverse in order to pump out the water? Does the pump spin in both directions; one direction to keep the water in the tank during the wash cycle and another direction to pump water out?

If this is the case, what would be keeping the motor from reversing? Can one part of the motor be burned out? Could it be a problem with the starter switch on the top of the motor? Other ideas?

Thanks
