Default Mayaw Burning Rubber Smell
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT7300AAW
Age: More than 10 years

The problem is at the beginning of the spin cycle. There is a smell of burning rubber and noise from the base of the transmission for about the first 2 minutes of the cycle. Then it spins up to speed - no more noise or smell. This is without a load of clothes. I was able to hand rotate the belt without problem.

What kind of noise?

Take the panel of and check to make sure that the motor is moving freely back and forth.

This is how the belt tension is applied.

The motor turns clockwise to agitate and counter clockwise to spin.

Here is a link to your washer model LAT7300AAW.

I took a chance and replaced the belts and all seems fine now. No noise no smell of rubber burning.
