Default Material caught in agitator
Brand: Please select
Model Number: GE GW500M
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi I am not sure how old the washer is it came with the house we just bought. it is a General Electric top loader and the sticker on teh from says model GW500M- but I don't think this is correct.

Yesterday I was washing chair covers which have material ties. So the washing machine pulled off 2 of the ties and a thrid tie was wrapped around the bottom of the center (agitator ?) I was able to get the thrid tie and assoicated cover unwound and a second tie as well. But there is a tie still missing. I assume it is warped under the agitator coulumn is there any way i can get that central peice off?

I really want to fix this ebfore my husband gets home

Your model number should be on a tag with the serial number.

It may be on the cabinets front right corner or in the center of the control panel in the back.

You should be able to see it if you lean over the washer.

If the washer is more than twenty years old the top of the agitator will screw off and then you can pull the agitator off. It will likely be stuck on.

If the washer is the new style the agitator snaps on to a drive bell under the agitator.

You can remove the agitator by grasping the bottom and sharply pulling up.
