Default Loud spin cycle
Brand: Amana
Model Number: NAV6800AWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My washer is making a louder than normal whirring sound only during the spin cycle. The cloths are getting dry, and I don't smell a burning smell, but when the tub is empty it does seem harder to turn the tub than it used to be. At first I thought maybe a coin or something had gotten stuck in there. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks,
Melanie

It is quit possible the the tub bearing is going.

Remove the front panel and see it there is any sign of water and soap in the middle of the tub.

Here is a link to your washer model NAV6800AWW.

Thanks Shelia,
I think there is, because I can hear water sloching around when I turn the agitator/tub. I did order the main bearing and seal because that seemed to be what was suggested in all the posts and research I've done on the problem. I will try to take the front panel off myself and take a look--I'm not too confident though in my abilities to remove it--I don't have any appl service tools for this kind of thing.
Thanks,
Melanie
