Question Leaking washer- should I buy new?
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LA9680XWNO
Age: More than 10 years

I installed a new water pump last year. I am wondering if I should continue to repair this machine. I thnk the agitator may need replacing because one of the spines on the inside top of the lower half is broken - but it doesn't seem to cause a problem with function; it also needs new gear dogs ($6) for the upper half of the agitator. I think the leak may be coming from the water inlet valve ($23). The water level switch no longer seems to work either ($75). The machine only fills about half way and I have to hold the switch to make it fill completely.
If I'm right about all this, it will cost me about $120 for parts if I purchase a few hoses too. I think I purchased this machine in about 1989-1991.

Because the newer machines are so costly and the parts for those are very expensive I'm wondering what's best to do. One machine I really like is the Maytag Bravos MTW6600TQ0 - which is really a Whirlpool. I really like the larger tub and short agitator. But got a bit scared off by parts costs when it starts to age abit.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Myself I would fix the one I have before buying a new one but it is totally up to you.

If the washer is still working good then it would be worth fixing.

Check to see where it is leaking. If it is the tub then you should replace it.

Here is a link to your washer model LA9680XWNO.
