hi, ladies and gents. i have a issue with my whirlpool washer that i have seen addressed with other brands but not mine. it seems to be very simple but sometimes the simplest things confuse me. my issue is the timer knob - it just spins freely and won't mesh with the timer body - obviously it's stripped internally. the timer works fine, so just a knob replacement is in order- but how do i remove the knob which is threaded and just spins freely?. thanks .

It's a good chance your timer is stripped. the problem is the knob has to come off first, to get the timer off. remove the 2 screws on panel, lift the panel up and back on it's hinges. check to see if your timer is plastic or metal. If plastic, pull up the little black plastic keeper and then pull off knob.
If it has a metal timer, you are gonna have to carefully saw or cut off the knob!
