Age: 1 - 4 years

washing machine will not agitate, nor will it spin and when it is in that mode it makes a loud grinding noise. i checked the belt on bottom of machine and it is there. tried to take agitator off and it will not come off.

Can you hear the motor running in the agitation mode?

yes the motor is running, but when it kicks into the spin cycle it makes a load grinding noise.

Is the noise coming from the motor area or is it coming from inside the tub?

If it is coming from the motor area it is likely the clutch.
