Default Knob timer assembly broken
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WSXH208V1WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi, My GE washer knob timer assembly (PN PS268454 item 30 from the control panel diagram) recently broke where the knob came off. I want to know if I need to purchase any of the parts (31 and/or 24) that it connects to as I can't really tell how this actually broke off in the first place. Any suggestions?

Can you see the timer shaft sticking out of the hole where the knob goes?

If not you may need the timer which is number 18 on the control panel diagram.

Here is a link to your washer model WSXH208V1WW.

Yes, I can see the shaft and it looks like part #30 is the only piece broken but I'm not sure. The knob came off with a small spring and a couple of washers and I can see the inside of the dial timer (#31) with the center shaft. It looks like the knob has some serrated teeth that connect to the inside of piece #31 but I can't tell how this thing broke or the two connect together and therefore don't know if I need any of the items it attaches to. (ie. 31, 24, 23, 18)???

If you have a local repair outfit take your knob and your model number with you and show them.

It is hard to tell without seeing what you have.

Default broken timer knob

The knob on my washer (same model) also broke in the same way. This part seems to be poorly designed.

Part 30 actually consists of the knob which is no longer attached AND the knob base which is still attached to the washer.

Default Replace knob timer

To replace the broken knob timer, use a pliers to rotate the knob base cylinder that is still attached to the washer counterclockwise to unscrew it. Then screw on the new knob timer.
