Question Kenmore Washer won't spin without help
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.22992103
Age: 1 - 4 years

Washer won't spin. Need help to decide whether to buy new washer or to fix it..
My washer won't spin without manually moving the tub. I can get a few loads through, but after two loads or so, the tub won't spin anymore. If I can get it to spin by giving it a push, it won't spin on high speed. It smells like burning rubber during the spin cycle, but I don't see any belts. I also don't see any oil.
I'm not sure if this is the cause of my problem, but my laundry room pipes froze up several weeks ago and I was using my washer during this time. Is it time to buy a new one? This is my 2nd Kenmore that lasted only about 4 years

Previously, I had the electronic version of the washing machine that I have now and it was the control board that went bad. The Sears repair man had suggested that I purchase my current 'manual' version since those models had a better repair record. The washer will spin properly only if I let the machine cool completely down between each load. I can hear a high pitched squeal (a methotical rubbing noise) when the machine is in the spin cycle. I do use lots of fabric softener. I wash about four loads per week.

A kenmore washer can do load after load for hours with out a problem, I often test a rebuilt one like that for several hrs to see if there's a hidden problem that might manifest itself later. Now don't get mad but do you think you might be overloading your washer? that can cause over heating(spin clutch overheats and slips badly)

Since it's just my husband and myself and most of my clothes go to the dry cleaners, I seldom have full wash loads. The first year or so I had the machine, I was single and had very little wash. I think you are correct about the clutch overheating, but it's not because I overload the washer. To keep my clothes bright, I do use a few tablespoons of Iron Out in my whites and lights and I always let them soak overnight. Could that be causing my problem?

No additive will affect the spin cycle, only oil leaking on clutch, or over loading, and some say spin brakes dragging will do the same, to make the tub run slow.
but there's one thing that might be wrong with your machine, the spin basket drive block might have broken, if so it lets the spin basket slide down and rub the bottom of the tub and do what you say. I've only seen this 3-4 times a year, but acks like what you say. To check remove the agitator, and see if the shiney 1 inch round spin tube is sticking up from center post about 1 inch from being normally flush from block and large ring nut, the spin basket will be dragging the bottom of the plastic tub If so do not operate untill you change the drive block and ring nut.
Good luck

This thread sounded the most like my problem. I went down to switch out my laundry to find water still at the bottom of the washer and when I tried to get it to spin again I heard a squealing sound and smelled burning rubber. (I don't know if it is spinning because the top locks) It also looked as though one of the sweaters I had in there was pretty tightly wrapped around the spinning thing on the inside of the washer. It may have been slightly overloaded too

Does this sound like a burnt out something or other? Belt? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. (It is a Frigidaire, 8 cycle, heavy duty, extra large capacity).

I have a Kenmore(Whirlpool) top load Mod.# 110.26832692. It also needs help to spin.
My question is.. Is the brake and drive assembly a separate part than the clutch assembly or are they the same pieces?
