Can anyone help? I have a Kenmore direct drive washer. The tub does not spin. The machine agitates, but does not spin. The motor coupler is good. I checked the lid switch and it is good. If we help start the spin cycle by hand, it will spin but never come up to full speed. I have it completely apart. The clutch, and brake look good, and when I spin the gearbox, it appears to be working fine. I pulled the cover off the gearcase and don't see anything visibly wrong. I did spill the gearcase oil. What kind of oil is used? Can I substitute some grade of auto oil? Local appliance parts dyored don't carry the oil and I need to get it back together today.

The oil should be SAE60 non-detergent and non-foaming motor oil.

You may have a worn basket drive.

Check the drive block. This is the piece that the tub sets on.
