We have a Kenmore washer that the wash setting dial does not automatically advance on. It does not move between the cycles. e.g. set it as "wash" and it will stay there until you physically turn the dial to move it to the next cycle, spin, rinse, etc. same thing. We think it is the timer mechanisim right behind the dial but want to be sure before we spend the money on a new one.

If the timer is not advancing on it own you will need a new timer.
