Lightbulb Kenmore Spin cycle problem
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 70 Series - 110.26732500
Age: 1 - 4 years

We have recently been have a problem with our washer right after it disengages the spin cycle. It spins great, no abnormal noise at all, but when the motor disengages the spin to let the basket spin to a stop on its own thats when the noise comes. If i were to describe what I think is happening (without knowing exactly how the washer works) I would say that when its spinning the gears of some sort move up and engage the bottom of the basket and the motor spins those gears in return spinning the basket. Now it appears that at the end of the spin cycle the motor stops but does not retract the gears and the basket is spinning so fast its hopping over the gears (sorta like when you drive to the shoulder and they have those grooves cut in the side, thats what it sounds like but shakes the house)

I did some testing and its definitely when the motor shuts off the spin because if in the middle of a spin I open the door to the washer it will do the same thing and if I close it, it stops.

It doesn't not sound like a metal griding or anything, I mean you can literally see the basket skipping over something while it spins to a stop

I have no problem calling sears to fix (out of warranty), but I am pretty handy and if its a pretty easy fix I would like to do it myself.

Thanks

Jonathan

Default Noise during spin cycle accelerating or de-accelerating

Check the bronze bushing inside the spin tube that the transmission drive shaft fits inside. This part wears out resulting in excess vibration. In my case it made a clicking/thumping sound especially on accelerating or de-accelerating in the spin cycle.

ok, found out what is causing it, the part from the basket that sits on the shaft are both worn (see pics 1 and 2). Anyone know what part numbers these would both be? also how hard to replace? any instructions? Also anyone have the part number for the plastic piece i broke in the 3rd pic? Thanks

Jon
