Default Kenmore multiple problems
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 11028902790
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Kenmore 90 series 3 speed washer that is 10 years old. I think I may have multiple probelms, not sure if one repair fixes both problems. Several months back the washer started making a clicking sound in the regular wash mode. It would not operate in that mode or the delicate mode however it would operate in the heavy duty mode. So we have been using the heavy duty mode, however today it started making a grinding noise and quit working in that mode. I disconnected everything and turned the machine on its side to discover that the coupler was broke. There was black shavings from the belt coupling and it was torn and broke and the plastic nubs on the couping gears were broke off. I did not leave the machine on its side but for about 15 minutes then stood back upright. After doing some research I have several questions.
1. Will replacing the coupling repair the machine completely or is there another problem, like maybe a transmission problem, that was preventing it from working in all wash modes?
2. Is it necessary to remove the cabinet completely to replace the coupling or can I do it by turning it on its side? Which is the recommended method?
3. Expecting the coupling to be $15.00 and possibly a tranny $145.00, and maybe other unknown expenses, would it be to my advantage to just buy a new machine?
Not afraid of doing the work if it is worth while to repair it, but if it is not cost efficient, don't wish to waste the time.
Appreciate any help and advise you can give.

Today I replaced the coupling and the dogs, all were worn out or broke, the coupling disintegrated in use yesterday and the dogs have been gone for a while. Washer still makes a clicking sound when trying to run in normal mode (slow/fast). Did not try to run through complete cycle to see if it would operate when fast speed kicks in. It will operate in the heavy duty mode (fast/fast) completelty. In the delicate mode (extra slow/slow) it will run, however did not run it through complete cycle to reach time when slow speed kicks in. In hang dry mode (fast/slow) it will run but did not run through complete cycle to see it it would run when slow speed kicks in. Did not seeing any shavings above or on tranny when replacing the coupling so I assume that the clutch is O.K. See no shavings in the tub under the agitator so I assume the drive block is O.K. It started clicking and not working in the normal mode last summer.
