Unhappy Kenmore 70 series washing machine
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110-4767290
Age: More than 10 years

My washing maching was fillng up with water, it was just reaching the selected water level, or had just reached it, when all of a sudden everything stopped, and I heard a loud humming , and then the circuit breaker tripped out. My guess is the loud humming is coming from the moter, and it's stuck. So my problem is a broken machine, full of water. Any ideas anyone??

Yes, bail it out, and take the pump off, and see if there is anything stuck in the pump first, before you replace the motor. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Well I finally emptied the water from the machine, as I moved the machine away from the wall, I immediately notice alot of black rubber shavings under where the machine sat. I placed the machine on it's side, and as I suspected, the plactic and rubber coupling were broken and worn. I removed the motor and pump, removed the old coupling , cleaned everything up, inspected the pump, which was still in good condition, along with everything else, and replaced the coupling set, which was pretty cheap to replace, under 20 dollars. I put everything back, ran a load, everything is running great now.
But, I always like to know why things break down , from what I have read from this great helpful website, the major cause is maching overload, which casues the coupling to fail eventually.
My question is , could there be any other causes, or a combnation of problems . Like could the tranmission be going ? Even though it's working now, or is just always maching overload?

A combination of overloading the washer, and the part being made of plastic. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
