Default Intermittent high spin problem
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LSQ9010LW0
Age: 1 - 4 years

The finish or high spin at end of cycle does not work usually after the first load of the day. I can hear the motor hum, but the basket doesn’t spin. If I turn the basket a few times or switch to a different spin cycle, sometimes it will work. When I moved the washer there was oil below the transmission/gearcase and on the inside of the side covers. I cleaned it up and a when I looked at it again a few months later it was there again. My guess is the gearcase, but I’m not sure if this type of problem could be caused by a bad gearcase even though it appears to be leaking. I would like confirmation from a pro before I order it and spend a couple hours installing it. (Unit is about 3 years old w/ 2 load average per day) Thanks…

If you've lost a lot of oil gearcase is likely. You could also have a blocked pump or a bad motor. To test:
1. remove shroud (locate brass clamps under control panel to release.
2. remove pump from motor (you don't need to detach hoses)
3. Make sure washer is unplugged
4. Add a jumper wire to lid switch connecter white to grey
5. Plug washer in.
6. Put into spin cycle (if washer spins look for a clog in the pump)
7. Still not spin? unplug washer. remove motor leaving wires connected (1/4 bolts and flat-head needed)
8. Plug in and spin. If the motor runs and isn't laboring replace gearcase.
