Default Intermittent failure of spin cycle, front load
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 417-42042100
Age: 5 - 10 years

When the washer fails to execute the spin cycle, it makes a growling noise and the tub will turn slowly and intermittently. The washer can go days operating perfectly, then it will mess up several times in a row.

A few years ago I a top loading machine that had a speed mode switch that would go bad. When it went bad the motor would make growling noises because more than one winding in the motor would be energized, so the two different speed windings would interfer with each other causing the growling noise.

I don't have a schematic for this machine. It has a mechanical timer switch so I am thinking that this is probably what is failing to work properly.

Has anybody had similar issue?

Thanks,
Kirk
