Default Inner tub displaced after wash cycle
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

I don't know the model #, but it's one of those combo washer/dryer deals stacked vertically. I put in 3 pairs of jeans and a few other garments, and I hear loud pounding noises from the washer during the spin cycle, which I think usually happens when the weight of the garments are unevenly distributed. When I open the lid, I see the tub is displaced from the surrounding casing, meaning the rim of the lid is visible, rather than just the opening for the tub. Is this normal? Can I just wiggle the tub back into place? Or is the outer part of the tub supposed to be attached to the casing somehow and I broke something? Thanks...I know nothing about this stuff and I'm not handy, so any input would be appreciated. I'm guessing this has to be a common problem and I'm hoping it's easily fixable. I put in a service call, which costs $65 for the initial diagnosis, but hopefully I can cancel if it's a minor issue.

It is likely the balance spring the has come unhooked or rusted through the base.

Remove the front panel and check to see if the spring are in place.

Can you please supply your model number?

Default same problem

My tub is offset as well, and it appears that the 1 spring is there, but it is leaning towards the back left corner. It is also a stackable and the model # is posted in the dryer door. My # is 110.88752790. Any advise would be great.

I've fixed about a dozen of these stacked 24" models.
It's not easy, as you have to take the top off, un hook lid switch, remove two screws that hold the front panel on.Then remove white plastic top of tub, remove agitator, remove ring nut that holds the spin basket, and then remove spinbasket.
remove large drain hose from bottom of tub. next remove 6 small screws, that hold the plastic tub on. Clean soap scum from around center post, and then pull off tub. Take the 3/4 nut off the affected spring, find a large washer that will fit over the top of the spring post. now put this back under broken spring bracket, and replace 3/4' nut, the repair is completed. before you reassemble, check the other spring nuts to see if they are cracked also. If so repair the same way. Then carefully reassemble and test for leaks while top & front is off.
this usually takes me 45 min. Allow your self 2 hrs to perform this difficult task

Thanks for responding. Geez, that sounds like a lot of work. I have a technician scheduled to come in on Tuesday for a diagnostic. Is this something they can just diagnose and fix immediately? Or $65 diagnosis, then I should order parts and do it myself? Which parts need to be replaced?
