Question How to replace/secure top agitator?
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LA550XPN7
Age: More than 10 years

I need some detailed instructions on how to replace the upper agitator on my old washer. I've located the upper agitator/filter part for this washer (at least it looks exactly like the one that is already separated from the washer) The filter on the old part is broken but the body is intact and I have the cap. The lower agitator over which this part fits has a metal bolt on top of it - is that the stud-agit part shown in the diagram or do I need to purchase one of those as well? I can see how it fits but how does the upper agitator secure to the lower one? Thanks for any guidance. Helen

Can you please verify your model number?

With out the model it is hard to say if the part are a part to your washer.

Your model number does not work in our database.

Is model la550xpn7 a Canadian model?

I have no idea if it's a Canadian model. It was purchased used from someone local here in Humboldt County California. The parts I identified look and measure exactly like the ones I removed from the washer so I ordered them and will see how/if they fit. Perhaps they'll come with some instructions. I'll let you know. Thanks for checking. I called Whirlpool and they didn't have the model number in their database either. It's too weird. Perhaps my eyes are misreading the numbers and letters. I'll ask someone else to look at them.

Take the bolt off the agitator and pull off agitator. Put your feet on the lower section and yank off the top section. In there you will see a set of four tadpole shaped agitator dogs, probably worn out. Go to partselect for info.
