Default How do you dismantle for repair...
Brand: Kenmore
Age: More than 10 years

I need to know how to take the front off a Kenmore washer that was made in the late 80's early 90's. There are plastic clips that hold the top to the sides, do I "pop" it open, the replace with new pieces? I'm burning midnight oil just to replace a belt, and I can't figure out what I will need to replace as far as regular repair tidbits, and such. Aaaargh...

This is an old product. the front does not come off. Unhook all the hoses, and lay the washer on its front. Take the 2 screws out off the back panel, and take the panel off. You have to take the 2 screws that hold the pump on off, and the hoses. Then lossen the 3 screws that hold the transmission in place. On of the screws has a spacer. Do not take the screws out. Lossen one of the screws all the way to see how far it will drop before it come out. then put it back in for a couple of turns. Then lossen the other 2 crews about the same distance. Then you will see the clutch, you will know what the clutch is because there will be a spring attached to it. Take the spring off, make sure the transmission is pulled down, and then slide the belt between the clutch area, and then tighten up the transmission screws, put the spring on, the pump, and then put the belt on last. This is not easy, it will probably take you awile. These are accurate instructions, you can do it. If you need me, you can reach me at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE.
