Default How do I remove the center post (driveshaft) gasket...?
Brand: Amana
Model Number: LW3502W2
Age: More than 10 years

My washing machine started leaking during the agitation cycle recently, and I've determined that the leak is not coming from any hoses and is not from a clogged drain. It seems to be dripping from somewhere in the center of the machine that I can not see, running down the driveshaft, collecting on top of the driveshaft pulley and then getting flung as the pulley rotates during agitation.

So, it seems to me that it's a leaky center post gasket. Would you agree?

I started taking the machine apart last night so I could clean it up and do some inspection before ordering parts. I got the front panel off, the top panel flipped up, the tub ring(s) off, the agitator removed, the inner tub removed, and the outer tub (with the driveshaft, pulley, etc. still attached to the underside) removed, and the pump off of the motor (so that I can replace the belt).

The problem I've run into is that I can not figure out how to get the old center post gasket off the driveshaft and out of the outer tub.

Here are som pictures of where I'm stuck...

Any suggestions for getting the rest of this taken apart so that I can replace the center post gasket? Is there some trick or a special tool that I need?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Steve

How to replace drive bell seal...?

Default How to replace drive bell seal...?

My washing machine has a leak such that the water is running down the driveshaft, collecting on top of the transmission case and getting dispersed from there during agitation. (It doesn't leak during filling.)

I suspect it is the Drive Bell Seal that is leaking, and would like to replace it.

However, I haven't been able to figure out how to remove the old Drive Bell Seal.

Will the instructions supplied with the Hub & Seal Kit (PS205734) explain this procedure (removing the old one) in detail?

Are there special tools that I need? I see that there is a Bell Tool (PS71807) that looks like it's for grabbing and removing the Drive Bell (which I've already done) and a Seal Tool that's function isn't obvious to me.

Any help?

Thanks.

Steve

I am not sure if the instruction will tell you how to remove the old seal.

The old seal can be pried out with a screwdriver.

The instruction should tell you how to put the new seal in.
