When my Maytag, top load, 10 year old, model LAT8214AAE wash machine hits the final rinse cycle it doesn't fill, just makes a humming noise and I have to manually move the dial on to spin and than it spins and finally shuts off. In other words it will stalls at the final rinse cycle and just makes a humming noise. It would hum and not do anything untill I either move it to spin or turn it off. What is wrong with it and can it be easily fixed with a new part?

check to make sure that the cold water tap is turned on. Also check that the water inlet valve solenoid is not defective. You will need an ohmeter to check, or it may be plugged up with rust or dirt.
