Question Help, washer wont spin
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: sav505daww
Age: 5 - 10 years

My washer seems to agitate and drain fine, but when it was on spin it started squealing and had some smoke coming out of it (I've since tried setting it on spin again and the smoke/squeal is a random occurance.) I took the front panel off and I noticed that when then spin cycle is on the motor does not spin Seems like I've had a lot of problems with this washer... is it just me, or does Maytag suck?

Pull belt off the motor and turn the tranny pully in the spin direction, if it is jammed, you probably have something cought in the tub, pull tub cover off and look. If ok you may have bad tub bearing/seal. To verify look above tranny and check for water leakage, if so this confirms bad bearing/seal.
You also may have a burnded up motor.

Thanks a lot! I pulled the belt like you said and spun the tub. At first it wouldn't spin then I heard a click sound and it spun freely. I then turned the spin cycle on for about 10 seconds, opened the lid and found one of my daughters hair clips in the tub. Maybe that was enough to jam it?? Anyway, it works now!!! Thanks again!
