Default Have to open lid to get washer to drain
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: lat9704aam
Age: More than 10 years

Have an old top load Maytag lat9704aam that fills with water and agitates, but will not drain between cycles unless I open the lid during the drain intervals. I can hear the timer click through the drain interval but nothing happens unless I open then close the lid at this point. The cycle will then continue on normally. Could this be the lid switch or timer? Is there a way I could bypass the lid switch?

any help is much appreciated
