Question Green wire??
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LA7680XMW0
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a whirpool washer that will not drain. The motor is running, and I can hear it trying but nothing is happening. I checked the drain tube and it is clear. There is a burning smell. I pulled it away from the wall and checked the back and noticed 4 wires connected to some kind of motor. Blue, red, and white are all attached but the green wire is not attached and looks as if it needs to be. Is this the reason my washer is not draining??? Thanks for your help.

The green wire is a ground wire and should be attached to the frame but it does not carry
electricity.

If the motor is running that is not your problem.

There is a part that is on the transmission that is called a wig wag or control magnet.

This is the piece that you see moving back and forth.

If the solenoid on the wig wag that is closest to the motor is not energizing the arm on the pump will not move in to the drain position.

Check for a broken wire or bad solenoid.

Here is a link to your washer model LA7680XMW0.

Here is the wig wag.
