Default Grease on Transmission Output Stem?
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: SAV205DAWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello all,

When I removed the bolt holding the agitator to the transmission output stem, I noticed there is a very light coating of grease on the stem. Also, there is no grease (or oil) at the base of the stem (where the stem meets the tub) so I'm almost inclined to think that it belongs there; however, that is only a very uneducated guess on my part, so could someone please confirm whether or not the stem should have a thin coating of grease on it?

Thank you so much.

Best regards,

gus

Tom,

Thanks for the information about the grease and the offer for additional help. I want to say that I think I'll be OK from here as I am going to replace the drive belt and the idler assembly spring. I was just concerned about the presence of a small amount of grease and; therefore, didn't want to waste my time if the grease was an issue.

Guess I should have added this picture before but better late than never:

Thanks again,

gus
