Default Grease stains on clothing
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LAT9600AAW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I know that I must have a bad seal or two and am wondering if anyone has done this repair themselves. I am curious on what you paid for parts and how difficult and time consuming the repair was. I know this machine is at least 5 to 10 years old but it may be older.

Thanks,

WRT

My Maytag is a different model than yours but the parts kit to replace the seals and bearings (top bearing and seal all one piece) was $80. Not a bad job, took me about 4 hours and I'm not a washer repairman. (auto mechanic) Now that I have done it, could do it in 2 hours. The kit comes with instructions and a list of special tools needed but you can improvise on the tools. Also get the exploded view of your washer from this site, big help. The kit calls for a special sealer but you can use RTV avaiable at any auto supply store or maybe the washer parts house will have a tube.. Good luck

Before you start replacing seals, lket me ask you a question. Do you use fabric softener? If you do, the is a possibilty, that some off the build up ass gotten loose, and has gotten on the clothes. Fabric softener looks exactly like a transmission fluid type of color when it sits and dry's on your clothes. If you have more questions I could be reached at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE Thanks Tom
